Case Study: Professional Roof Cleaning in Kankakee, Illinois
Roof stains can make a home look older than it really is. For this recent roof cleaning project in Kankakee, Illinois, Green Pro Services used a professional soft washing method to safely remove black algae streaks, dirt, and organic buildup from the shingles.
This was not a high-pressure roof wash. Shingles should never be blasted with pressure because it can loosen granules, shorten roof life, and cause unnecessary damage. Instead, our team used a controlled soft wash process designed specifically for roof cleaning.
The Problem: Black Roof Streaks and Organic Buildup
The roof had visible black streaks and discoloration caused by algae and organic growth. This is common on homes throughout Kankakee County, especially in shaded areas where moisture sits longer on the shingles.
Over time, this buildup can make the roof look dirty, neglected, and worn out. Many homeowners assume the only answer is replacement, but in a lot of cases, a professional roof soft wash can dramatically improve the appearance of the roof.
The Solution: Soft Washing Instead of High Pressure
Green Pro Services cleaned this roof using a soft washing method. Soft washing uses a low-pressure application combined with the proper cleaning solution to break down algae, dirt, and organic growth at the source.
This process is much safer for asphalt shingles than pressure washing. The goal is to clean the roof without damaging the surface, stripping granules, or forcing water under the shingles.

Why Roof Cleaning Matters
A clean roof can completely change the way a home looks from the street. Removing black algae streaks helps brighten the exterior, improve curb appeal, and make the entire property feel better maintained.
Professional roof cleaning may also help extend the life of your roofing system by removing organic material that holds moisture against the shingles. It is a smart maintenance service for homeowners who want their property to look clean without risking roof damage.
The Result: A Cleaner, Brighter Roof
After the soft wash treatment, the roof looked cleaner and more refreshed. The black algae streaks and surface buildup were treated safely without using damaging pressure.
This is the kind of exterior cleaning result that makes a big difference fast. A roof can take up a large part of what people see from the road, so cleaning it can instantly improve the look of the entire home.
