By Jeremiah Green  |  Published August 30, 2026  |  Kankakee, Illinois

Short answer: On August 29, 2026 the Green Pro Services crew knocked on a door in Kankakee, Illinois, asked the gentleman who answered if we could clean his patio at no charge, and then pressure washed the whole slab for free while he watched. He paid nothing. There was no contract, no upsell and no catch. The full job is in the video below.

Watch: Green Pro Services knocks on a door in Kankakee, Illinois and pressure washes a homeowner's concrete patio for free. Uploaded August 30, 2026.

What Happens In The Video

We were finishing a job on the same side of Kankakee and drove past a house with a concrete patio that had gone dark green with algae. We parked, walked up and knocked. The homeowner came to the door, we introduced ourselves, and we asked if we could clean his patio right then at no cost. He said yes.

From there the video shows the whole process. We walked the slab, pre treated the concrete, ran the surface cleaner across it, cut the edges in with a wand, and rinsed everything down. The color change starts showing up on camera within the first few passes. At the end you get a look at the finished patio next to the section we had not touched yet, which is the honest way to show a before and after.

Why Did Green Pro Services Clean A Stranger's Patio For Free?

Because it is a better use of an hour than another ad. We would rather spend the time and the chemical on a neighbor in Kankakee and let people see the work than run one more sponsored post that nobody asked for.

There is a second reason and we will say it plainly. Most homeowners have never seen what a surface cleaner does to old concrete. They think a patio that color is stained permanently and that the only fix is tearing it out and pouring new. Showing it live on somebody's actual slab teaches more in five minutes than a page of copy ever will.

  • The homeowner paid nothing and signed nothing.
  • We asked permission before we touched anything, including permission to film.
  • We used the same equipment, the same soap and the same process we use on a paid job.
  • Nobody pitched him on anything after we packed up.

How Do You Pressure Wash A Concrete Patio Correctly?

You clean concrete with soap and dwell time first, then use pressure to rinse. Blasting a green patio with a zero degree tip and no chemical is how people end up with wand marks burned into the slab and algae growing back in three weeks. Here is the order we follow on every patio, including this one.

  • Protect the surroundings. Wet down the grass, plants and mulch beds around the slab before anything else touches them.
  • Pre treat. Apply a diluted sodium hypochlorite mix with surfactant so it clings to the concrete instead of running off.
  • Let it dwell. The chemical kills the algae and the organic growth. That is the part that keeps it from coming back quickly.
  • Surface clean. A rotary surface cleaner covers the slab in even overlapping passes with no stripes and no zebra marks.
  • Cut the edges. Wand the perimeter, the expansion joints and anywhere the round surface cleaner could not reach.
  • Rinse everything. Flush the slab and rinse the landscaping down again so no residue sits on the plants.

The same low pressure and soap first approach is what we use on siding when we handle house washing, and it is why we can safely wash wood on a deck and fence cleaning job. Full details on the flatwork side are on our pressure washing service page.

How Long Does A Patio Like This Take?

A standard residential patio takes one to two hours from setup to teardown. The size of the slab matters less than how much organic growth is on it and how far we have to run hose from the truck. A patio, a walkway and a driveway together is usually a half day.

What Does Patio Cleaning Cost In Kankakee?

Concrete cleaning is priced by square footage, so the fastest way to get a real number is to send us the address. We measure your flatwork from satellite imagery and send a written quote the same day. No appointment, no salesman standing in your driveway. You can run your own ballpark first with our power washing price estimator, or just request a free estimate.

Most people who call us about a patio end up asking about the rest of the house too. That is what the Green Pro Clean Club is for. Your concrete, windows, gutters and house wash get scheduled across the year at a member rate, and you stop having to remember to call anybody.

Will You Come Knock On My Door?

Maybe. We pick these at random while we are already working in a neighborhood, so there is no list to sign up for and no way to request one. If you want your patio done on a schedule instead of by luck, call us at (815) 650-0397.

This is not the first one we have given away. Earlier this month we donated a full playground pressure wash and sanitizing service to King Middle School here in Kankakee. You can see more of that kind of work on our Google Business Profile, where our neighbors have left over 100 reviews at a 5.0 rating.

Questions People Asked About This Video

Correct. The patio cleaning in this video was free. The homeowner was not charged, was not asked to sign anything and was not put on a follow up list. We gave him the job and left.

It can if it is done wrong. Holding a narrow tip in one spot etches the surface and leaves permanent lines. We clean with a chemical pre treatment and a rotary surface cleaner that spreads pressure evenly, which is why the finished slab has no stripes in it.

Usually about a year. Shaded concrete under trees or on the north side of a house grows algae back sooner because it stays damp longer. Slabs in full sun can go two years between cleanings.

It is almost always algae, and sometimes lichen or moss in the joints. It is also slippery when it gets wet, which is the safety reason to have it removed and not just a looks reason.

We saturate the landscaping before we start and rinse it again when we finish, which dilutes anything that runs off the slab. Pets and kids stay inside while we work and can come back out once the concrete has been rinsed and is drying.

Kankakee is home. Our shop is at 407 S. Yates Ave in Kankakee, Illinois, and we work throughout Kankakee County, Will County and the south suburbs of Cook County.
