House Washing And Gutter Cleaning In Clifton, IL

By Jeremiah Green, Green Pro Services  |  September 1, 2026  |  Kankakee, Will & Iroquois County

Yesterday we spent the day on a house in Clifton, IL. The homeowner called about green streaks running down the north side of her siding and gutters that were spilling over the front of the garage every time it rained hard. We soft washed the entire house, then cleaned and flushed all of the gutters and downspouts before we left. Two problems, one trip, one crew.

Clifton sits right in the middle of farm country in Iroquois County, and that shows up on houses out here. Field dust, road grit off Route 45 and the county roads, and a lot of shade and moisture on the north and west walls. Siding does not stay clean on its own in a place like this. Here is exactly what we did and what it looks like when the work is finished.

The House Wash

Soft washing, not blasting the siding

The dark growth people see on their siding is usually algae, mildew, and mold. You cannot scrub that off with pressure alone, and trying to do it with a high pressure tip is how vinyl gets cracked, how water gets forced behind the J channel, and how paint gets stripped off trim. We do not do that.

Instead we soft wash. We apply a cleaning solution at very low pressure, roughly what a garden hose puts out, let it dwell so it kills the organic growth at the root, then rinse the whole house down with clean water from the top of the wall to the bottom. We wet down landscaping before we start and rinse it again after, because the plants around the foundation matter to the homeowner and they should matter to us.

The result is what you see above. The siding is not just lighter, it is actually clean, and because the growth was killed instead of knocked loose, it stays that way a lot longer. Most homes in this area look good for a year and a half to two years after a proper soft wash, depending on how much shade and how many trees they have.

The Gutter Cleaning

Full hand cleaning, then a flush

Her gutters had not been touched in a couple of seasons. They were packed with shingle grit, maple seeds, leaves, and the compacted mud that builds up underneath all of it. Water was running over the front edge instead of down the downspout, which is the fastest way to end up with rotted fascia and a wet foundation.

Our gutter cleaning is done by hand off the ladder, not blown out from the ground. We pull the debris out, bag it, carry it off the property, then flush every run with water and confirm each downspout drains. If a downspout is clogged we clear it right then. We also wipe down the gutter faces so the white trim actually looks white again, since that is the part everyone sees from the driveway.

Why Clifton homes get dirty faster than city homes

A few things work against houses in and around Clifton and the 60927 zip code:

  • Open farm ground on every side means airborne dust settles on siding all spring and fall.
  • Humid Illinois summers feed algae growth on shaded walls, especially north facing walls that never dry out.
  • Mature trees near the house drop enough seed and leaf litter to fill a gutter in a single season.
  • Freeze and thaw cycles push standing water in a clogged gutter back under the shingle edge.

None of that is a reason to panic. It is just a reason to put exterior cleaning on the calendar instead of waiting until the house looks bad from the road.

How we quote a Clifton job

You do not need to schedule an appointment for an estimate. Give us your address and we measure your home from satellite imagery, then send a written price the same day. Pricing is based on the size of the house, the surfaces involved, and the condition, so a quote on a two story home with 200 feet of gutter is not the same as a ranch. What you see in writing is what you pay when we are finished.

We are not the cheapest company in Iroquois County and we do not try to be. We are insured, our crew is OSHA trained, we answer the phone, and we show up when we say we will. Our customers have left us over 100 five star reviews on our Google Business Profile, and that is the standard we hold ourselves to on every house.

Nearby towns we serve

Along with Clifton we run jobs in Chebanse, Ashkum, Danforth, Papineau, Beaverville, Martinton, Kankakee, Bradley, Bourbonnais, St. Anne, Manteno, and the rest of Kankakee and Will County. If you are not sure whether we come out your way, call and ask. The answer is usually yes.

Clifton, IL Questions

Frequently asked questions

Price depends on the square footage of the house, the number of stories, and how much growth is on the siding. Send us your address and we will measure the home from satellite imagery and send you a written quote the same day, with no appointment and no salesman at your door.

Yes. We hand clean gutters in Clifton and throughout the 60927 area. We bag and haul off the debris, flush every run with water, confirm each downspout drains, and wipe down the outside faces of the gutters before we leave.

High pressure is not safe on vinyl. It can crack panels, force water behind the siding, and strip paint from trim. That is why we soft wash houses instead. The cleaning solution does the work at low pressure, so the siding gets clean without the damage.

In our part of Illinois most homes need a wash every 18 to 24 months. Houses with heavy shade, mature trees, or a north facing wall that stays damp usually need it closer to every year.

Twice a year is the safe answer if you have trees close to the house, once in late spring and once after the leaves drop in fall. If you have very few trees, once a year is usually enough. Gutter guards can cut that down to an occasional inspection.

No. We only need access to the outside of the home and an outside water spigot. Plenty of our Clifton customers are at work while we are there. We text before we arrive and again when the job is complete.

Yes, and it is the smart way to book it. Bundling both services into one visit saves you money compared to scheduling them separately, and the gutter faces get cleaned as part of the house wash rinse anyway.

Yes. Green Pro Services is fully insured, and our crew has completed OSHA 1910 pressure washer and window cleaner safety training. We can send a certificate of insurance before the job if you want one on file.
