When Should Mokena Homeowners Book Christmas Light Installation?

By Jeremiah Green, Green Pro Services of Kankakee LLC | Serving Mokena and Will County, IL

Book by the end of September. If you want a specific date, and especially if you want your lights on before Thanksgiving, late September is the honest deadline for Mokena. By mid October most of the good Will County dates are already spoken for.

If you are reading this in August, you are early and that is exactly where you want to be.

Mokena runs on the same crew route as Frankfort and New Lenox. Those three towns fill together, which means the calendar closes faster here than the raw number of Mokena homes would suggest.

The Mokena Booking Calendar, Month By Month

Here is how a season actually plays out on our end. Find where you are and you will know what is still available to you.

July and August

Returning customers rebook and hold their date from last year. New customers who call now get first pick of the entire install calendar. Design conversations happen without any time pressure. This is the quietest and best time to call.

September

The busiest booking month and the last month where you can still name your date. Quotes go out fast, designs get finalized, and the pre Thanksgiving slots start disappearing in the second half of the month.

Early October

Install season opens. Crews are on rooflines most days now. You can still book, but you are choosing from what is left rather than picking freely. Weather is on our side and the days are still long enough for full install days.

Late October

Most pre Thanksgiving dates in Mokena are gone. If you call now we can usually still get you on the schedule, but the date will probably fall in the first two weeks of November.

November

We are installing hard. New bookings go into whatever gaps exist, and those gaps shrink every day. Daylight is short, weather starts interfering, and a rain day pushes everybody behind by one day. Late November calls usually mean lights going up the first week of December.

Early December

Last calls. We take them when we can and we are honest when we cannot. Anything booked here is weather dependent, and a cold snap or an ice event can move your date with no warning.

January

Takedown season. Every display we installed comes down and goes into storage, at no additional charge. More on how that works in our takedown and storage guide.

Why The Calendar Closes Earlier Than People Expect

Homeowners tend to think of Christmas lights as a December thing, so a September deadline feels aggressive. Four things make it real.

  • Daylight. An install crew loses usable roofline time every week through the fall. A job that takes four hours in early October can eat a whole day in late November because the light is gone by 4:30.
  • Weather. Frost on shingles is a hard stop. So is wind. Illinois hands us a certain number of unworkable days every November and we cannot schedule around days we cannot predict.
  • Route density. We batch Mokena, Frankfort and New Lenox on the same install days to keep drive time out of your price. That efficiency is good for your quote and it means those three towns compete for the same slots.
  • Design lead time. Lights are custom cut to your roofline. That measurement, cut and prep happens before we ever pull into your driveway, and it takes time we have plenty of in September and very little of in late November.

What Waiting Actually Costs You

Not money. Our pricing does not go up as the calendar fills, and there is no rush fee. What you lose is control.

  • You stop choosing your install date and start accepting one.
  • You get less design conversation and more standard package.
  • Your lights may go up after the first snow instead of before it.
  • If weather pushes the schedule, late bookings are the ones that move.
  • You spend the first two weeks of December being the only dark house on a lit street.

Book The Cleaning First, Then The Lights

One thing worth knowing about timing. We hang lights on your gutter line, so if your gutters need clearing it is much easier to handle that before the lights go on, not after. A lot of Mokena homeowners pair a fall gutter cleaning with their install and we do both in the same visit window. Same for window cleaning if you want the house camera ready for the holidays.

Clean Club members get priority booking on the holiday calendar. Details on the Clean Club page.

How To Lock A Mokena Date

Call or text (815) 650-0397, or send your address through the contact form. We measure your roofline on satellite imagery, send a written quote the same day, and hold your date once you approve it. There is no site visit and no appointment needed to get a number.

We are locally owned out of Kankakee with more than 100 five star Google reviews. You can see the full program on our Christmas light installation page, and we run the same calendar in Bourbonnais and across Kankakee County.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Book by the end of September. That is the last point in the season where you can still choose your install date in Mokena. By mid October most pre Thanksgiving slots across Will County are taken. July and August are even better if you want first pick of the calendar.

Usually no, but your options narrow a lot. November bookings in Mokena typically get installed in whatever gaps remain, which often means late November or the first week of December. Weather can also push a November install with little notice. Call and we will tell you honestly what is left.

Install season opens in early October and runs through early December, weather permitting. Starting in October gives us long enough days to complete full installs and gives homeowners the option of having lights ready before Thanksgiving.

That is your choice. Many Mokena homeowners have us install in October or early November and leave the timer off until Thanksgiving weekend. The display is installed, tested and ready, and you decide when it starts running. The automatic timer handles it from there every night.

Yes. Returning Green Pro customers can rebook their date starting in the summer, before the general calendar opens. Clean Club members also get priority booking on the holiday schedule.

Yes, and summer is the best time to do it. Booking in July or August means you choose your install date outright, you get an unhurried design conversation, and nothing about your season depends on what is left over.
